Nantucket Reds

If you know your prep culture, you know about Nantucket Reds. I’m no expert, but I am definitely a fan! :)

In case you haven’t heard of (or seen) them, they are the originally-red-but-fades-into-pink, cotton canvas pants (now you can get other garments, too) that just scream “true prep”. They work like this: the more you wear and wash them, but better they become.

I love love LOVE stories about where particular fashions come from, preppy or otherwise. I like this one because Nantucket Reds started in a single, charming little shop in Nantucket, Murray’s Toggery Shop. Check out the video they produced below to learn a little more about their history.

Do you have a pair of Nantucket Reds? I own a pair of shorts (not from the Toggary Shop, sadly), and I love them. They are a great way to add some color into your wardrobe, and you really can pair them with just about anything – a white oxford, blue blazer, or cute fitted v-neck. Gotta love ‘em!
