Paper

Little Surprises

by Katie on August 6, 2012

You know that time you went to Target and left with fifty million things you didn’t go to get? Oh, you mean that’s every time you go? Yeah, me too.

I was there this week to pick up a few household items and, because I can’t not walk by paper products once I see them, I stumbled across these two couldn’t-pass-up notebooks!

I am forever taking notes and writing things down. I usually prefer paper and pen to anything digital (can you believe it?!) so I stock up on purse-sized notebooks whenever I see cute ones – you can never have too many notebooks, right? The little spiral-bound notebook on the left is from Russell + Hazel and has a fabulous pocket in front for all of those tiny little things you collect throughout the week. Here is a similar notebook if you’re looking for such an item.

The set of three notebooks are from Green Inspired. I got mine in the store of course, but if you’re looking online, here is a similar set from the same company. Just lovely!

And the pens you see? Well, those are just my most favorite pens! Good ole’ Paper-Mate from Write Bros. The cheap ones. They are the best!

Are you a paper/notebook addict like me? Where do you find your favorite paper and office supplies?

Chevron Stationary from Delphine

by Katie on October 10, 2011

I’ve proclaimed my love for chevron many times before. Imagine my excitement when I saw these little numbers pop up in my inbox.

While I usually prefer the perfectly spaced clean lines, these are just too perfect not to share. I’m not really in the market for wedding stationary…but then again, when has not being in the market for something ever stopped me from not swooning over it?! *sigh*

Find (and purchase) these lovely items from Delphine!

geek <3

by Katie on February 16, 2011

I’d like to think I’m half geek. I don’t think I could be full-on geek because I don’t have the brains for it. But, I get some of the tech funnies and I’m permanently attached to my iPhone and MacBook Pro (and I’d like to think these things alone make me at least a tiny portion geek). Plus, I know a few (and I do mean a FEW) lines of HTML and PHP code…that has to stand for something, right?

Geek or not, I DO have a mad obsession with paper, and these little pretties (from Paperwheel Press) tie in geeky goodness like no other!

AAHHH! I need them all. NEED!

Last Minute Valentine’s Decoration

by Katie on February 12, 2011

As much as I love spending hours crafting things, sometimes I have a limited amount of time (and energy) and want to get things finished just minutes.

I saw little heart ornaments a while back, and when it came time to decorate our Valentine’s Day tree (aka our still half-decorated Christmas tree), I thought I’d try to fashion something similar. Here is how I did it (not that you couldn’t figure it out by just looking at the picture :P )!

Supplies:
- Two strips of paper, about 12″ by 1″ **
- Two strips of paper, about 8″ by .75″ **
- One 5″ piece of rickrack (or ribbon, yarn, string, etc.)
- A stapler

** Your paper doesn’t need to be these exact measurements. Use whatever scraps you have! :)

Stack your paper strips – place one of the wider ones right side down, a thinner strip right side down on top of that one, the second thin strip right side up on top of that, then top it off with the second large strip right side up. Try to keep everything centered.

Here’s what it should look like once you have everything stacked!

Then staple those strips together! All of you self-proclaimed uncrafty people rejoice – yes, even you can do it! :D

To make your heart shape, take the top of each strip and bend the right half towards the left, and the left half towards the right. Here is an awkward photo of me trying to do just that.

Keep on bending those strips, until the rights sides are touching.

If you want to hang these off of a tree (or from the ceiling), fold some rickrack or ribbon in half and insert the ends down through the top of the heart. The bottom (of the top of the heart) would look something like this.

Staple everything together, and…..

Voila! You have a super quick, super simple, no-glue-or-sewing-required Valentine’s Day decoration. Here’s a picture of one hanging off of our tree…it’s a little big for the tree that we have, but it works for now. I would have loved to have hung some of these off of ribbons of different lengths from the ceiling in front of the windows in our apartment or above my desk at work….maybe next year?

The next time I try these I’m going to use double sided patterned paper and add more strips to each side – I think that’ll make them a little more funky and fun. Plus, who says hearts have to be limited to Valentine’s Day…or red and pink for that matter?

Personal Stationery

by Katie on February 7, 2011

Notes. Thank you notes. Just because notes. Cheer up notes. I LOVE NOTES! Maybe because I’m obsessed with paper? Maybe because I feel special when I get them? Or I love the feeling of trying to make someone else feel special by sending them?

Whatever the reason, I’m a big believer in “you can never have to many” when it comes to cards, thank you notes, and stationery (though I am absolutely positive this is false). But hey, until it becomes a serious problem, buy and write away!

My biggest love in the paper and printing world right now is letterpress. Check out these swoon-worthy options from a few of my favorite studios, elum, Hello!Lucky, and Page Stationary (pictured respectively).
