Summer in [Outdoor] Style

by Katie on June 2, 2012

I love being outside when the weather is nice! I especially love lounging around reading a good book and eating…usually something that someone else has made. ;)

Perhaps I love the warmer months because the weather is more grill-friendly, which means the hubby does more cooking than usual. But as much as I love him cooking and grilled food in general, grills tend to be ugly, bulky, and impossible to hide. Well, at least the cheapy ones apartment dwellers with tiny balconies or porches (like us) tend to buy. We live in a beautiful spot and have big-enough outdoor space, but unfortunately our grill, even when covered, is an eyesore. Every. Single. Time. I look out our doors I see it and it bothers me.

SO, when I saw THIS beauty, I almost passed out from sheer happiness. And of course, when I discover a new shop online, I can’t just look at one item and leave. Oh no. The more I found at Horne, the more I fell in love with the brand and the more I felt I absolutely had to share it. There just isn’t enough stylish outdoor furniture and accessories out there!! Horne has plenty of indoor fabulousness as well, but that’s a post for another day.

Check out some of my favorites for any porch, patio, or deck this summer from Horne!

1. Hot Pot BBQ, Black + Blum – A BBQ/grill and herb planter all in one. YES! You can’t even tell it’s a grill when it’s not being used as one. No more aching eyeballs when I look out the window! Please, grill gods, put this outside my door!

2. Loll Wallbanger, Loll Designs – Outdoor bar. Hangs on wall. Made from 100% recycled high density polyethylene (plastic milk jugs). ‘Nuff said!

3. Case Study Planter w/ Plinth in White, Modernica – A large, lovely planter for something big and green!

4. Urbanfire Propane Fireplace in Avocado, Modfire – Propane fireplace, suitable for indoors and out. Available in a bunch of colors – I’ll take one of each, thanks.

5. 5 Gallon Rectangle Planter, Loll Designs – Perfect for a few colorful plants for your outdoor space.

6. Lighthouse Oil Lamps in White, Menu – Bonfire flames from table-top oil lamps. Gimmie gimmie!

7. Pin Table/Outdoor Table, Menu A/S – Brightly painted wood tables that you can poke into your grassy lawn or sandy beach!

So stylin’!

What is your summer outdoor must-have?!

Outdoor Living Rooms

by Katie on March 20, 2011

Southern California weather is hard to beat. Almost every single day is beautiful, and even when the weather is gloomy, it’s not all that bad.

Having such gorgeous makes you want to spend as much time outside as possible. So, space permitting, why not have an outdoor living room?! Sadly, we can’t fit much more than a tiny grill and a couple chairs and a bistro table on our apartment balcony (none of which we actually have), but that won’t stop me from lusting after these FABULOUS outdoor spaces. SWOON!

Brandon and I have talked about how to take outdoor spaces like these more livable (well, more usable, anyway) in Missouri weather (since we assume we’ll be back there eventually). We agreed on a few outdoor heaters and maybe a free-standing fireplace. Maybe we could get a few more months of use out of the space at least….? Hopefully one day we’ll find out!

All the pictures here are from House Beautiful, one my my all-time favorite home magazines. Gooootta love it.
