Wonderful Window Treatments

by Katie on March 30, 2013

I adore windows. They let in the sunshine and cool breezes on warm days. Sometimes they offer beautiful views (unless you’re looking out our bedroom window, which is about three feet from a huge wooden fence – not my idea of a great view). But what I love the most about windows is that you can dress them up head to toe, er, I mean ceiling to floor with amazing window treatments that can really turn a room around.

When we moved into our current place, all of the windows had curtains or window blinds, or both. Most of the curtains blended in well with the rest of the apartment, but two particular pairs were hideous beyond belief (so we replaced them with super inexpensive grey ones from IKEA). But, as I’m falling more and more in love with design and the graphic arts, I am itching to try something new – something bold and colorful, and, just different.

I’d really love to consider some new options – something other than panels on rods. Not sure which would work best for our spaces, but here are three of my favorite ideas…for now. ;)

Roman Shades
I LOVE what you can do with Roman shades. Our bedroom window (the one overlooking that ugly fence) actually has bamboo Roman shades, for when you want to block out the sun (and the rest of the world), but it’s really not our style. I’d love to replace them with something of the fabric variety to help soften up our room!

I love these – so preppy.

Pleated Panels
These might be a good option, but they aren’t that much different than what we already have. I like the gathered/pleated element up top – draws your eyes up and looks more pulled together than rings with clips hanging off of them. I’m loving that bedspread too…plaid is all the rage right now (at least on one of my Pinterest boards ;) ).

Roller Shades
These days roller shades seem more utilitarian than decorative, but I think they can be both. Wouldn’t something like this be wonderful for a craft room/home office? Especially if you like to get creative – I could buy a simple, single color shade and paint it up with fabric paint!

Now I just need to decide which treatment will work with each window! :D

Fall In Love with Wheat

by Katie on September 27, 2011

It’s FALL!! Officially. I even saw some red and yellow leaves this weekend and that made it feel real (I can’t count on chilly weather since the “chilly” weather here is the mid-60s).

I adore all things autumn. However, there is one thing I’ve never paid much attention to – wheat. Well, I do love to consume wheat (oh who am I kidding, any carb for the matter), but never have I decorated with it. Actually, that is a lie – for one of my cousin’s rehearsal dinners, I helped to set up and my Aunt had organized fabulous wheat centerpieces. But anywho, I have discovered some super fab wheat decorations that I thought were worth sharing. Check them out!

This one is prooobably my favorite (I’m such a sucker for glass/bottles/jars and letters)! There is a tutorial on making your own if you’re in love with it too. Check it out on Choose to Thrive.

This wreath is from Midwest Living and the arrangement is from The Real LC. Adore them both!

A few more wheat arrangements from Dear Lillie and Harvest (though it looks like a Martha image to me).

What are your thoughts on wheat decor? Too country chic? I’d usually say yes…but for fall, it just seems so right! Have you ever decorated (crafted or purchased ready-to-place) with wheat? Tell me more!

A Single Stem

by Katie on April 28, 2011

I’ve posted a time or two about flowers. I just love how they add some pretty to any day and place. :)

I love my cube at work, but it needs a little help. It’s very….gray. And while I LOVE gray, I mean I really do adore the color, this girl NEEDS something colorful in there (aside from the giant map pinned to the wall to my left). One simple thing I thought of? A single stem vase (or two)! They’re small, so they don’t take up much space, and they showcase one or two beautiful flowers. You don’t need much more than that to make a day just a bit more cheery.

Check out these super cute ideas!!

Catering Crumbs || IKEA

Wouldn’t these look so charming in the middle of a kitchen table, perched on a shelf in a reading nook, or tucked between a computer and a stack of papers on a desk?! Love, love, love them.
